Once Upon a Cupcake

I’m Shereen, married to Aftab and mother of two grown up children. I’ve been a doctor, a business woman, a stay at home Mom and finally doing what I love best which is ‘making pretty things’.

Hello after a very long time. Vacation, work, EXPO and some laziness on my part.

I did some mixed media stuff a while ago but hadn’t been able to take any pictures before today. I wanted to do some Cupcakes. THey are so in vogue. I wanted to make 4; so far have been completed which I’m sharing with you today.

In both cases I started with a 6×6 inch piece of packing sheet that came with some bed linen that I purchased. First I tore the top layer to expose the corrugated layer in some parts. Then I basically built the background by adding paint, paper, stamping, more paint, spray etc. I sketched the cupcake on  papers from ‘she art’ collection’ by Pink Paislee. Added a frill which I made from a paper doily, a couple of fussy cut roses and alpha stickers to spell the word ‘sweet’. Added a banner (I love banners) and some fussy cut roses to the background. I covered an 8×8 inch piece of heavy chipboard with paper from Basic Grey ‘Sweet Threads’ collection and then adhered the mixed media piece onto it.

This second piece has a similar story. I added some mica fragments to add some sparkle and also some tissue paper which I scrunched a bit for texture. Cupcake was made with papers from MME (Can’t remember which collection), the banner was stamped using a stamp by Dylan Reavely.

I use a fine tipped black acrylic pen to highlight the edges and for adding doodles.

Till next time then.
