Guest Designer: Sathya

A big hello to all beautiful creative people! We are super excited to have our Challenge 9 winner, Sathya Kala, on board as Guest Designer for our first ever mood board challenge.

So without any further delay, we introduce Sathya, who will walk us through the process of creating this awesome project.

Hi Crafty peeps, Am Sathya Kala from Paperie Expressions. Am an MSc., MPhil., Toxicologist who has a pulsating desire to pursue my Doctoral research Program. Meantime thought to explore this art world, as am much inclined towards it from my childhood. And this love drove me to this craftland and Blogland in 2011 and then there is no looking back. Pastel shades, Handmade blooms using diecuts are my forte and recently started to explore and love Mixed media techniques and watercolor too :)

Am so stoked to Guest Design today here at Artful Crafting on a Wonderful Moodboard with an Awesome theme. Thank you so much Saba and Entire Design team of Artful crafting, for this lovely opportunity to showcase my talent here.

Have come up with a Simple Mixed media Canvas with all highlighted ingredients of moodboard such as Laces, Roses, Spring, Feminine and Classy in accordance with the specified color scheme =)

Took a 8×10” primed canvas. Stuck a pattern paper to canvas, which has subtle spring elements as a backdrop using Ranger Multimedium Matte. Gone for a crazy layering as my focal point of the canvas. Layered using cheesecloth, corrugated cardboard, torn pieces of Prima pattern papers stamped using Bobunny script stamp using Archival sepia ink, and a beige crocheted lace. All the layers were stuck using hot glue gun and foam adhesives for various depths and dimensions. Gessoed all layers and background pp and let it for drying.

Then added few stacked up doilies on the layering. To which a rectangular resin frame, which are  brushed roughly using Prima Art alchemy Opal magic- Rosegold is added.  Housed ivory sisal on to the centre and added a cage chipboard on top, which is coated with Picket fence Distress stain and sponged at edges using Rich cocoa momento ink.  Mumma and baby duo chipboards are similarly coated with Picket fence distress stain and slightly sponged with Mustard seed Distress ink and edged with rich cocoa momento ink.

Handmade Roses are made using Joycraft diecuts, which are sponged using Ranger Shell pink dye ink and misted with water and shaped to make. Similarly leaves are diecut from Sizzix Garden greens, sponged with Crushed olive and peeled paint Distress inks. Misted with water and shaped. Floral spray is made near the cage with Roses, leaves, and peeled paint misted cheesecloth. Just to add further interest, Prima mini artstones are sprinkled and Ranger glossy accents are added onto Leaves and Rose petals.

A Hotpink floral heart resin is added to the top of the cage. Random stamping were done, using Black archival ink and Prima Texture stamp around the layerings. Prima –Junkyard –Vintage Trinket – Precious Zipper added just below cage and Wplus9 “Mom” sentiment added banner is placed near zipper.

The background paper is stenciled diagonally using Stamplorations Shutter stencil using Prima Clear crackle. And MFT Moroccan stencil is used to sponge Shell pink ink to give an overall subtle light pink background. Prima Micaflakes – Mulberry are added near the corrugated layering for little interest.

Just to add little more punch to the simple subtle background, Timholtz Letter labels were taken and formed as “Mumma”, “Mai”, “Maa”,”Mother”, which meant  “Mom” in other languages. Added to brown cardstock and heat embossed using UTEE clear and popped up using foam adhesives on and around layerings.

Few fussy cut butterflies, pearls, Pink pearl string are added along with random Pinkish purple Pearlescent paints as accents. For the final touch, the edges of whole canvas was sponged with Rich cocoa momento ink.

Hope you like this simple Mixed media canvas for the Inspiration of the current challenge – Precious Mom.

Thanks much once again for the awesome chance to make a gift for my Mom on her birthday month =)

Thank you Sathya for the beautiful contribution!

The challenge closes in 7 days, so all those wanting to participate, hop over to Challenge 12: Precious Mom

  1. Lovely project Sathya! I love the different ‘mum’ names you’ve added to the wonderful background. The blooms are amazing too. :)
